My Baby Girl
Rocci

Several years ago I became the father of a 4oz baby raccoon named Rocci. Apparently she fell out of the tree in our back yard and was abandoned by her mother, so I took her in. She was so small and helpless, she needed lots of care and attention. When her eyes opened the first thing she saw was ME! and I became her "father". Rocci followed me everywhere I went and sometimes mimicked the things I did. Rocci loved to play, but sometimes played a little too rough (smile) and she got into everything you could think of. I knew Rocci always had the nature of a Raccoon, and I had to watch her closely, no matter how tame she seemed to be. As I watched rocci's behavior, I thought of the fallen, sinful nature that we as Christians possess. Paul referred to this as the "flesh" in which "nothing good dwells" (Romans 7:18). It may be repressed and restrained, but it is always there. Unless we are daily controlled by the Lord, our old "self" will demonstrate it's destructive capacity in some way or another. Although we are new creatures in Christ we still possess a tendency to sin, but we don't have to be controlled by it for we are united to Christ and indwelled by Christ. By obeying God's word and yielding to His Spirit every day, we can be victorious over the flesh - the nature of sin within.
